Vrboska tourist destination info

Vrboska was founded in 15. century when residents of Vrbanja decided to found a fishing village and enrich its economy in this way. Mediterranean atmosphere can be felt in the old stone houses and narrow winding streets, and cultural and historical sights and church buildings further confirm the beauty of the place. The eastern part of the town, Pjaca and the western, Podva, are interconnected with bridges between whom there is a small island. Vrboska boasts with beautiful church buildings. The most impressive building is the church-fortress of St. Mary (16. century) which was built by the locals in order to defend against the Turks. Definitely worth seeing is the parish church of St. Lovirnac which houses a treasure trove of works of art, one of the oldest churches on the island – church of St.Peter and the church of St. Rok that was built as a vow against the plague. Particularly interesting is the watchtower Kaštilac and Fishing Museum. Check the old fisherman's house, nets, tools and various equipment from the past to get to know the fishing tradition of this place.
